Eclipse note

For the curious, the chess opening Glorious Shield of Sarnath is the Sicilian.

The Horns of Hattin opening is a4 h4 Ra3 Rh3 preparing for Rd3 Re3. With some frequency, the last two rook moves are replaced by pxB after BxR.

    George Phillies says:

I have played against the Horns of Hattin opening. After my first Bxr, the opponent brought out the second rook, where it was immediately taken. He thought I would rescue my first bishop, which fell to pxB, letting him move the other rook to e3. I was not sophisticated enough to wonder if losing a second bishop to giving him a pair of doubled pawns on the h file would be a good trade. (Likely not, but I did not consider it.)
